Natural Swimming Pools

PICT0070-2.JPG
We have been receiving increased interest in our international markets from customers wanting to “build” natural pools. The concept of swimming in natural pools obviously predates all of our modern swimming pool construction. However, it is worth asking: “Just what is a natural pool?”

According to Wikipedia, “A natural pool or natural pond is a system consisting of a constructed body of water, where the water is contained by an isolating membrane or membranes, in which no chemicals or devices that disinfect or sterilize water are used, and all clarifying and cleaning of the water is achieved purely with the motion of the water through biological filters and plants rooted hydroponically in the system.” This obviously is a fairly strict definition based upon the publication "Recommendations for the planning, construction and maintenance of private swimming and natural pools" 2006 Edition. Others have defined “natural pools” based more upon the look and feel of the pool and the avoidance of man-made chemicals in the maintenance.

While the definition can be debated, pool owners face real-world issues such as:

·Is my pool safe?
·Do I want to swim in it?
·Is it easy to maintain?
·Is it costly to maintain?

This where ECOsmarte often times comes in. We are asked “Are your systems compatible with natural pools?” For us, the answer is an unequivocal “Yes.” Our systems allow natural pools and ponds to have the desired look and feel and we use no chemicals. In fact, most people who swim in a natural pool using one of our systems have no idea our system has been installed. Our preferred filtration method uses either natural sand or the extremely environmentally friendly recycled, crushed glass. We feel we strike a very welcome balance for natural pools owners.

In sum, for those who want the look and feel of a natural pool or pond with day-to-day ease and peace of mind, we believe a solution exists.

Chlorine Standards Should be Reduced, Not Eliminated in Public Pools with .4ppm Copper Present

Are you an ECOsmarte dealer thinking of commercial opportunities in regulatory environments?

Setting the Ecosmarte at 1.0ppm free chlorine with the commercial pool controller will work great at the bather loads and filter sizes confirmed. Attempting to blanket license before a site is set up is fruitless in our experience, and the 50 per cent chemical expense net is all that can be claimed. THE SWIMMING ENVIRONMENT IS WHY THEY BUY THIS Product, the savings are a bonus and justification per the testimonials at www.ecosmarte.com/publicpools.html. Plenty of technical information for a buyer here. GETTING the government to lower the free chlorine to .5 ppm with .4 copper should be the goal.

The EU standard is lower at .5 ppm with a max of 1.5 total chlorine. Getting people to adopt the EU standard should be the goal, with the swimmers counted vs eliminating the chlorine entirely with no bather count-- which I would oppose and makes no public policy sense, given bad operators at some pools--EVEN WITH ECOSMARTE.

The oxygen, copper and tight pH control, especially with Glass Filter Media will make every pool safer and more pleasurable to swim in.
